Touted as The Prettiest Small Town in the South, historic little Edenton boasts an idyllic waterfront location overlooking its own bay and the Albemarle Sound. It has much authentic Colonial architecture, hospitable locals, kayaks for hire, and some good places to have dinner. KEDE offers a respectable courtesy car to the first lucky customer, and Enterprise will have a rental waiting for you if you want wheels to explore farther afield. There are half a dozen very good B&Bs, and camping is available on the airfield.
